Sunday 6th May Newmarket 1000 Guineas Day

Another day has started and we go again as yesterday wasn't a strong day on the tipping front but we do have a possible superstar on our hands in the shape of Camelot. I'm still firmly in the camp of Bonfire and Noble Mission for the derby but it's still a month away and a lot of racing to be had before that.

On with today's card...

2.05pm Qipco Racing Handicap 1m 4f

I admire John Gosden immensely a truly wonderful man to have in our brilliant sport and he's certainly got his stable in the right vein of form currently. CAUCAS running first time out this year will in my view progress and will run a solid race over what in my view is his desired and preferred trip. His form is in better quality races and his 3rd behind Drunken Sailor would be my pick of his form. The ground wont be a problem and with William Buick on board has an excellent each way squeak. I'm also having HURRICANE HIGGINS this beautifully bred Hurricane Run gelding is another who will come on this year and I'm sure his last run will help in his fitness, staying on in his last race I see another staying performance from the Mark Johnson stable who's horses are synonymous with never giving up. Again HURRICANE HIGGINS will enjoy this trip and can make it in the frame at an each way price.

2.35pm Dahlia Stakes 1m 1f

I'm repeating myself here but John Gosden has a beautiful filly on his hands, who I'm sure will progress into a four year old IZZI TOP finished third in the Oaks, the time before that won a very competitive race at Newbury back in May. I think this Pivotal Filly will progress again and certainly has a winning season to look forward to. IZZI TOP has form on this ground and will take all the beating in my view.

3.15pm 1000 Guineas 1m

LIGHTENING PEARL is overpriced here, the form is very strong, won the Cheveley Park Stakes at this track back in September in scintillating fashion over the 6f trip but was staying on in that race and has finished about three lengths away from Maybe over the 7f trip. That filly lines up again and is a short priced favourite. This Ger Lyons filly if can stay the trip and handle softish conditions could be the each way steal. I'm also having GRAY PEARL who's trained by Charlie Hills who is currently having a good season. I liked the way this horse travelled at Newmarket last time out if only she could of settled better in the early stages. I believe that a mile for this Excellent Art filly won't be a problem and if she's got stronger and has developed over the Winter then the current 33/1 price is huge.

3.50pm Qatar Racing Handicap 6f

A huge field go to post here in what can only be described as a calvalry charge. It's difficult to know whether the draw will play a hand but I believe being up with the pace is crucial. Being close to Cheveton would be a bonus as he likes to bounce out the stalls quickly and usually up with the pace and that's why I'm having another big outsider who will be close to the pace, coming out of stall 14 he needs to be handy and will be staying on in the finish my selection goes to my favourite trainer of last season because of Dream Ahead the one and only David Simcock saddles FASTHA. This seven year old will enjoy the ground and has a little form at Newmarket. FASTHA if fit and primed has a good draw and is in great hands with Martin Dwyer. Another each way price.

Good Luck if your having a punt!

Grand National Selections.

How I'm feeling about the upcoming Grand National Neptune Collognes - 2012 Grand National hero This time of year never fails to stir the soul both tangibly and metaphorically. After the sun peeps it's head out from amongst the clouds, after the temperature rises, after the first buds are seen on the trees, after the restoration of vitamin d in our blood, after the taste of a crisp cider on a warm day hits the tongue, after many months of wearing trousers I can finally air the paler than white limbs of mine, after...after...after all that April is the month when a new grand national winner is crowned king of the toughest steeplechase in the world. I can safely say without hesitation that this years national is probably the most competitive yet, the handicapper has given everything a chance this year and I'm happy with the three selections that I'll be following. Grand National Selections: Selection 1: Onenightinvienna  Trained by Philip Hobbs ...

A real Christmas Cracker! Kempton Park Boxing Day.

The festive season has begun for me, sitting down with my Santa hat, a mince pie and a pint of guinness all points to a very content and relaxed feel to this weeks blogg. Merry Christmas everyone and boy we got some racing to look forward too. It's important to remember that with over three months or so before Cheltenham the trainers, owners, jocks and all us normal folk are looking forward to seeing a magnificient build up and thats why Boxing day at Kempton park is the place to be. On with the card... 12.50 Kempton 2m Hurdle It was nice to tip TETLAMI last time out at Sandown and I certainly wont be deserting this five year old just yet. Looked a picture in the paddock at Sandown, ran on strongly in the finish and will love softer ground than some of these if indeed it is on the softer side. Nicky Henderson showed his class in training this one to victory after a long lay off. I believe another win is possible and with Barry Geraghty on board I'm full of optimism. 1.2...

Royal Ascot Preview 2013

The centrepiece of our flat season is almost upon us, this time of year when our thoroughbreds have illustrated enough talent on the racecourse they now gain a chance at landing a big prize at Her Majesty's Royal Ascot. My first preview blog of the meeting quite logical focuses on the first day and it's my pleasure to outline my thoughts on the week ahead starting tonight. The main news this week regarding Henry Cecil is extremely sad, as many have mentioned with wonderful prose regarding the publics favourite, a horse handler who cared for his animals with the midas touch and a trainer who had the ambition and determination to never say 'enoughs enough' even when he was down to around 40 horses in the early 2000's or the pressure and stress in his private life. He is and will always be remembered as a true gentleman and a phenomenal trainer. It's also worth noting that he had an absolute terryifyingly good record at Royal Ascot and it just wont be the same w...
