Saturday 4th February Lingfield Park

We are at the mercy of the weather at the moment and judging on forecasts it really doesn't look good for any racetrack hosting an event this weekend. Sandown my favourite duel track has had to postpone this Saturdays fixture and what a potentially mouthwatering card that was in prospect. My tip of the day would of been Neptune Collonges for a third time after running superbly well off a heavy weight and running on into 2nd, this horse still has a race in him to win this season.

With the weather outside currently at around -2 we need to look no further than the all weather surfaces to find ourselves so thoroughbred action. I'm actually a fan of the all weather, it's never received much love from the purist but I believe a little research can go along way and that's why I'm previewing Lingfield today. Thank God for the all weather!

Need to put my flat racing hat on!

Lingfield

12.55 7f Handicap

A very tricky handicap race where any of the nine that go to post surely have a chance. However I believe I've found a nice each way hidden in the midst of mediocrity. Make no bones about it these horses are poor, not the worst I've ever seen but still in a lowly class here. SAUCY BUCK most certainly can do the business here. His handicap mark has dropped to reasonable enough mark for him to take this contest, the horse will enjoy the 7f trip more than 6f or a mile and could be one of those horses that may end up a 7f specialist. SAUCY BUCK ran a credible race here last time out over the same course and distance finishing 3rd. At around 7/1 I think that's a good price.

1.25 1m Stakes Race

MARVO is a consistent type who may have a touch of seconditus about him but nevertheless has a great chance here. The gallop will need to be strong as MARVO likes to be prominent in a race and will get an extended mile. Mark Tompkins is a trainer I admire greatly, I wonder I'd he has another Ted Spread up his sleeve for this season, that horse mentioned is now with Nicholls jumping over fences and has already notched a win this season.

2.00 6f sprint

Hayley Turner and EFISTORM seem to get on very well, this 11 year old journeyman of a horse is still loving his racing and has shown an excellent level of consistency over the years. But for me the booking of Hayley Turner is the crucial thing, Hayley is a truly world class jockey, I would have no problem in allowing her to ride my horse, she has a great way of encouraging and nursing a horse into a race and I have no doubt that at 11/1 for EFISTORM she will deliver him at the right time. The 6f trip at Lingfield will suit and I don't think this is the hardest race in terms of competitors for EFISTORM, my each way stand out bet today!

2.30 6f Handicap

COURT APPLAUSE looks like he has a squeak here, off a reasonable mark, has ran very credible races at Lingfield. If COURT APPLAUSE runs like bye has in his last few starts when only losing between 1 to 2 lengths then I'm sure it won't be long before he beats others who are on a similar mark. This race is tough to call but by a slim margin I think George Baker can land this prize today!.

3.00 1m Handicap Class 3 (a little bit of quality)

This is a much better quality handicap and I'm looking no further than the Richard Fahey trained TAROOQ over the mile trip this horse has by fair the best form in the book when you look at it 2nd losing only by a neck to Mull of Killough that was a much classier handicap race than this one. The trainer Richard Fahey is in rude health at the minute, his horses are in fine fettle and with the horse liking the Lingfield track, I believe this horse will progress again and has the scope to do so even at the age of six. TAROOQ is the one to catch.

3.35 1m 4f Class 3

Another classy little handcap over the extended mile, it's another selection who yet again is a nice price currently. BRUNSTON he looks dangerous at the weights and could quite easily recapture his best form. This duel performer who has a great pedigree, High Chaparrel grey gelding has had a great many races over hurdles and has clocked up some nice wins in that sphere. However back on the flat looks like a good decision by the trainer as the prize money on offer isn't bad and looks like he is out of the handicappers grasp at present. The trip and surface hold no worries for me as he has gained experience on two separate occasions finishing a credible 3rd last time out in which he was carrying a much higher weight than today. A great shout here and he is overpriced so take advantage of the 12/1 on offer.

Good luck f your having a punt!

Grand National Selections.

How I'm feeling about the upcoming Grand National Neptune Collognes - 2012 Grand National hero This time of year never fails to stir the soul both tangibly and metaphorically. After the sun peeps it's head out from amongst the clouds, after the temperature rises, after the first buds are seen on the trees, after the restoration of vitamin d in our blood, after the taste of a crisp cider on a warm day hits the tongue, after many months of wearing trousers I can finally air the paler than white limbs of mine, after...after...after all that April is the month when a new grand national winner is crowned king of the toughest steeplechase in the world. I can safely say without hesitation that this years national is probably the most competitive yet, the handicapper has given everything a chance this year and I'm happy with the three selections that I'll be following. A real Christmas Cracker! Kempton Park Boxing Day.

The festive season has begun for me, sitting down with my Santa hat, a mince pie and a pint of guinness all points to a very content and relaxed feel to this weeks blogg. Merry Christmas everyone and boy we got some racing to look forward too. It's important to remember that with over three months or so before Cheltenham the trainers, owners, jocks and all us normal folk are looking forward to seeing a magnificient build up and thats why Boxing day at Kempton park is the place to be. On with the card... 12.50 Kempton 2m Hurdle It was nice to tip TETLAMI last time out at Sandown and I certainly wont be deserting this five year old just yet. Looked a picture in the paddock at Sandown, ran on strongly in the finish and will love softer ground than some of these if indeed it is on the softer side. Nicky Henderson showed his class in training this one to victory after a long lay off. I believe another win is possible and with Barry Geraghty on board I'm full of optimism. 1.2...

Royal Ascot Preview 2013

The centrepiece of our flat season is almost upon us, this time of year when our thoroughbreds have illustrated enough talent on the racecourse they now gain a chance at landing a big prize at Her Majesty's Royal Ascot. My first preview blog of the meeting quite logical focuses on the first day and it's my pleasure to outline my thoughts on the week ahead starting tonight. The main news this week regarding Henry Cecil is extremely sad, as many have mentioned with wonderful prose regarding the publics favourite, a horse handler who cared for his animals with the midas touch and a trainer who had the ambition and determination to never say 'enoughs enough' even when he was down to around 40 horses in the early 2000's or the pressure and stress in his private life. He is and will always be remembered as a true gentleman and a phenomenal trainer. It's also worth noting that he had an absolute terryifyingly good record at Royal Ascot and it just wont be the same w...
