Sandown Saturday 7th Januaury

It was with great pleasure that I tipped a few on new years day. The Cheltenham card had an excellent mixed bag of old and new horses and tipping four winners always feels good.

Finding a winner today however is going to be difficult. Therefore I'm limiting my tips today but believe these horses to be the best option in making a profit. Enjoy

On with the card...

Sandown 1.00pm Mares Hurdle 2m 4f

I'm going to start with something that I firmly believe in and that's horses who seem to be progressing on the upgrade having the opportunity to go and perform at a higher level and that's why I'm looking at KAFFIE. Trained by Kim Bailey this mare Has one her two previous starts n fine fashion over 19f and 21f respectively. Im very positive that a big run is to be expected. If you look at the way she ran last time out it seems that soft ground is important and with Jason Maguire in the saddle it all points to a positive. KAFFIE has every chance.

1.35 Juvenile Hurdle 2m

It's true to say that a few of these are looking exposed so I'm staying clear of Colebrooke for that reason. In this race I can see that the market may also play a part in deciding just how good Fire FIghter is, this horse was a very capable individual on the flat over the 2m trip plus but questions marks will surround its jumping. So, with all that in mind it has to be the Nicky Henderson French import, has ran over hurdles in France. I believe this horse has the ability to go on to better things after this race SOLIWERY is the one to be on.

2.05 Handicap Chase 2m

An intriguing chase over two miles with some having raced against each other at Cheltenham last time out. Unfortunately on that day the two horses I've selected here were travelling very well throughout the race but one fell and the other blundered the fence and unseated the rider but I still believe that TANKS FOR THAT and DAVES DREAM are the ones to be on. Both have course and distance wins around Sandown, both have the experience and quality to beat a relatively weak field. Tanks for that has beaten Rileyev before and quite a few of these look exposed or are simply not good enough to beat these two. I'm recommending a 1,2 here. Henderson will be in for a real treat!

2.35 Tolworth Hurdle 2m

PROSPECT WELLS is a talented horse and is yet to show just how good he is. Wasn't overly disappointed with his last run at Ascot but if Ruby can time his run correctly before the last hurdle then I can see this horse staying up the Sandown hill. One of my horses to follow this season!

Good Luck if your having a punt!

Grand National Selections.

How I'm feeling about the upcoming Grand National Neptune Collognes - 2012 Grand National hero This time of year never fails to stir the soul both tangibly and metaphorically. After the sun peeps it's head out from amongst the clouds, after the temperature rises, after the first buds are seen on the trees, after the restoration of vitamin d in our blood, after the taste of a crisp cider on a warm day hits the tongue, after many months of wearing trousers I can finally air the paler than white limbs of mine, after...after...after all that April is the month when a new grand national winner is crowned king of the toughest steeplechase in the world. I can safely say without hesitation that this years national is probably the most competitive yet, the handicapper has given everything a chance this year and I'm happy with the three selections that I'll be following. A real Christmas Cracker! Kempton Park Boxing Day.

The festive season has begun for me, sitting down with my Santa hat, a mince pie and a pint of guinness all points to a very content and relaxed feel to this weeks blogg. Merry Christmas everyone and boy we got some racing to look forward too. It's important to remember that with over three months or so before Cheltenham the trainers, owners, jocks and all us normal folk are looking forward to seeing a magnificient build up and thats why Boxing day at Kempton park is the place to be. On with the card... 12.50 Kempton 2m Hurdle It was nice to tip TETLAMI last time out at Sandown and I certainly wont be deserting this five year old just yet. Looked a picture in the paddock at Sandown, ran on strongly in the finish and will love softer ground than some of these if indeed it is on the softer side. Nicky Henderson showed his class in training this one to victory after a long lay off. I believe another win is possible and with Barry Geraghty on board I'm full of optimism. 1.2...

Royal Ascot Preview 2013

The centrepiece of our flat season is almost upon us, this time of year when our thoroughbreds have illustrated enough talent on the racecourse they now gain a chance at landing a big prize at Her Majesty's Royal Ascot. My first preview blog of the meeting quite logical focuses on the first day and it's my pleasure to outline my thoughts on the week ahead starting tonight. The main news this week regarding Henry Cecil is extremely sad, as many have mentioned with wonderful prose regarding the publics favourite, a horse handler who cared for his animals with the midas touch and a trainer who had the ambition and determination to never say 'enoughs enough' even when he was down to around 40 horses in the early 2000's or the pressure and stress in his private life. He is and will always be remembered as a true gentleman and a phenomenal trainer. It's also worth noting that he had an absolute terryifyingly good record at Royal Ascot and it just wont be the same w...
