Saturday 26th November Newbury and Newcastle

The jump season is in full flow, this weekend we have a utopia of excellent racing some of the creme de la mont go to post here and I'm very much looking forward to it!.
I'll start at Newbury...

1.30 Newbury 2m 6f Handicap Chase
Strange contest to pick out and start my blogg with and these certainly are no world beaters but even so a very interesting handicap. OUR ISLAND sticks out here at an each way price and could take all the beating. When you delve into the form it won a novices hurdle race at Newbury back in February of this year, showing an excellent gutsy performance in which he stayed on in the finish. I believe this horse is now fitter after it's very credible 2nd at Exeter last time out and although it is top weight I can see it being prominent, will jump consistently as its shown in the past and will get the trip when some in this race maybe floundering. OUR ISLAND a solid each way bet.

2.05 Gerry Fielden Handicap Hurdle 2m 110y
A cracking renewal, we have some very progressive types in this race and I believe the weight distribution will also play a hand. However, I'mstill very keen on ROCK ON RUBY although carrying top weight is undoubtedly the classier of all the horses. ROCK ON RUBY if fit and well for his first start out this season will take all the beating. Another huge positive is it's run in the Neptune Hurdle at Cheltenham back in March, only losing by a shy head this horse has proved it on the biggest stage and was so unlucky to lose narrowly on that day. I'm a huge fan of this horse and it still has scope to improve.

3.10 Hennessy Gold Cup 3m 2f
Hennessy Gold Cup, always an exciting race and again this year a very competitive proposition. I'm hunting for the value but also a jumper who will get the trip, enjoy the ground and pace of this galloping race and be able to jump consistently and convincingly. To start I'm tipping three here as they are hard to split and it's important to mention I'm struggling to be committed to just one horse here. Any how BESHABAR Tim Vaughan's trained horse is an absolutely cracking horse, loves top of the ground and will love this stamina sapping test. The trainer has always been very excited about this horses future and is it any wonder. The progress it made last season and the way it runs points to a horse that can gallop, jump and will always try in the finish and is just an out and out stayer. BESHABAR cracking each way value. GREAT ENDEAVOUR this grey showed tremendous promise from its last run at Cheltenham, it is undeniable when you see how it ran in that race just how good this horse could potentially be, I also believe that Timmy Murphy is the most understated jock out there, he rode an absolute cracker and with David Pipes horses in tremendous order you would be stupid not to have a few quid on this horse. Finally, CARRUTHERS this could be the each way steal of the race. Another horse that will love the trip and looks like the ground wont be too much of a negative. I also believe that most people have forgotton just how good this horse is. I was impressed by it's last run when it took on Galaxy Rock at Cheltenham, losing that day but was carrying more weight. Off a light weight here could definitely take this coveted prize.

Newcastle 1.10 2m 6f
MISS KALIFA here looks a very good proposition she won easily at Ffos Las and looks a very progressive filly. With a low weight on here back I can see another positive performance, on ground that will suit.

I'm staying clear of the fighting fifth hurdle on the premise that my fingers have been well and truly burnt in the last few seasons so I'll say BINOCULAR but not overly convinced with that horse and never has it really captured my imagination. However Nicky Henederson is in a purple patch of excellent form.

Good luck if your having a punt.

Grand National Selections.

How I'm feeling about the upcoming Grand National Neptune Collognes - 2012 Grand National hero This time of year never fails to stir the soul both tangibly and metaphorically. After the sun peeps it's head out from amongst the clouds, after the temperature rises, after the first buds are seen on the trees, after the restoration of vitamin d in our blood, after the taste of a crisp cider on a warm day hits the tongue, after many months of wearing trousers I can finally air the paler than white limbs of mine, after...after...after all that April is the month when a new grand national winner is crowned king of the toughest steeplechase in the world. I can safely say without hesitation that this years national is probably the most competitive yet, the handicapper has given everything a chance this year and I'm happy with the three selections that I'll be following. A real Christmas Cracker! Kempton Park Boxing Day.

The festive season has begun for me, sitting down with my Santa hat, a mince pie and a pint of guinness all points to a very content and relaxed feel to this weeks blogg. Merry Christmas everyone and boy we got some racing to look forward too. It's important to remember that with over three months or so before Cheltenham the trainers, owners, jocks and all us normal folk are looking forward to seeing a magnificient build up and thats why Boxing day at Kempton park is the place to be. On with the card... 12.50 Kempton 2m Hurdle It was nice to tip TETLAMI last time out at Sandown and I certainly wont be deserting this five year old just yet. Looked a picture in the paddock at Sandown, ran on strongly in the finish and will love softer ground than some of these if indeed it is on the softer side. Nicky Henderson showed his class in training this one to victory after a long lay off. I believe another win is possible and with Barry Geraghty on board I'm full of optimism. 1.2...

Royal Ascot Preview 2013

The centrepiece of our flat season is almost upon us, this time of year when our thoroughbreds have illustrated enough talent on the racecourse they now gain a chance at landing a big prize at Her Majesty's Royal Ascot. My first preview blog of the meeting quite logical focuses on the first day and it's my pleasure to outline my thoughts on the week ahead starting tonight. The main news this week regarding Henry Cecil is extremely sad, as many have mentioned with wonderful prose regarding the publics favourite, a horse handler who cared for his animals with the midas touch and a trainer who had the ambition and determination to never say 'enoughs enough' even when he was down to around 40 horses in the early 2000's or the pressure and stress in his private life. He is and will always be remembered as a true gentleman and a phenomenal trainer. It's also worth noting that he had an absolute terryifyingly good record at Royal Ascot and it just wont be the same w...
