Saturday 19th November Ascot and Haydock!

Going for broke here this weekend in more ways than one (trust me on that!). Its been a while since I updated my blogg and I'm going to put my tipping firmly on the line this weekend. Why? Its mainly down to the fact that I am overdue a blogg or two but more importantly the racing is nothing short of immense. We have a mixer of old time world beaters and new pretenders who want to step up and be world beaters themselves.

With that in mind I'm a little early on the selections as some of these may indeed be non runners come Saturday but if not I believe these beautiful thoroughbreds have every chance.

Ascot 1.00 3m Novices Handicap Chase

I always look out for newish names in racing and the form starts to become an interesting read when you see that Jamie Snowden who once was under the wing of Nicky Henderson seems to be making a name for himself and someone I can trust to get his horses right. Jamie Snowden has had a good start to this years NH season and has hit the proverbial crossbar in recent weeks and I like the look of his horse GRADUATION NIGHT. It seems the longer trip has been the making of this horse and it really does seem to go on any ground. If this horse gets into a good jumping mood then I think it will give the rest a real hard time. Jamie Snowden is certainly a trainer I'll be watching closely and with this horse winning its last race by 10 lengths and its race before that by 44 lengths respectively, I cant see it being out of the top three.

2.20 Amlin Chase 2m 3f

Wow!, top quality line up and how nice is it to see so many of these with bright chasing futures ahead of them. I've narrowed this down to two and as I cant decide I'm having to tip both. Firstly MASTER MINDED now if you read my blogg last month you may have had your fingers a little burnt at odds on but I'm in no doubt this superstar horse who in my opinion ran one of the greatest races we'll ever see in the history of Cheltenham in the Queen Mother Chase back in 2008 and is still a phenomenal animal. MASTER MINDED looked like it needed the run at Aintree and I'm not going to drop it from my horses to follow this season as I'm sure it will run up to about the same mark as it was on in this very race last season. If Ruby is on board then the trip, ground and pilot all point to a better account of what will always be one of my favourite horses owned by Clive Smith, still only eight! More surely to come!
My second choice was going to Captain Chris but it appears he is now not running in this race.
2.45 Coral Hurdle 2m 3f

Another classy field in what will be a very competitive renewal. I must mention one of my favourite hurdlers in the last few years and one that will always be a horse I would of gave my right arm to own and thats LOUGH DERG.

Lough Derg

I have no problem in tipping this front running, never say die trier of a horse! Tom Scudamore loves him to pieces and thats not why i'm tipping him but after his first race this season which saw him finish well behind at Exeter it may seem silly to think that it will get in the frame. Well, I believe your wrong this horse is a Fontwell and Ascot specialist. The 19 furlongs at Ascot gives this horse a chance to gallop out in front and he just wont give up a true battler at a tasty each way price. However, my more realistic and unoriginal choice is the Nicky Henderson trained OSCAR WHISKEY this horse is talented and its just a shame that it's around at the time of Hurricane Fly, Peddlers Cross and Binocular but he certainly can hold his own. finished off the season on Grand National day at Aintree in superb fashion. This horse is a solid jumper and likes to be up near the pace throughout. Nicky Henderson the trainer has always rated this horse and I would be surprised not to see it finish in the places for its first start this season. OSCAR WHISKEY is in for another tilt at Cheltenham and has the class to see off all rivals in this years renewal of the coral hurdle.

Haydock

2.30 3m Handicap Hurdle

For regular readers of this blogg you will know I like to look for a bit of value and I believe that comes in this race. The two I'm looking at are GLOBAL POWER and RIVEL DES'TRUVEL both at the right end of the weights and both are relatively unexposed hurdlers. Both have shown excellent recent form this season, the trip and ground wont be a concern as it looks like its going to be mostly good ground.
RIVEL DESTRUVEL'S form has been positively franked by Galaxy Rock who won a blinder at Cheltenham on Saturday and for me that looks very solid form indeed. I can see both of these horses running very good races and I'll be certainly backing both at each way prices.

3.05 Betfair Chase 3m Chase

Time for Rupert

This is always an exciting race and what a truly excellent renewal even if it looks as though six go to post. I believe as jump racing fans we'd love Kauto Star to go and win this race again but I'm afraid I cant see it happening. Its time for a young pretender to step onto the scene and deliver, in my eyes the progressive TIME FOR RUPERT looks a huge danger. This chaser jumps well has a good cruising speed and is my horse to follow this season. It's first run of the season was needed in my opinion and if Paul Webber can deliver this horse in peak condition that I believe at 8/1 that could be a very nice price indeed. TIME FOR RUPERT it's all in time an it is his time!.

Good Luck if your having a punt!

Grand National Selections.

How I'm feeling about the upcoming Grand National Neptune Collognes - 2012 Grand National hero This time of year never fails to stir the soul both tangibly and metaphorically. After the sun peeps it's head out from amongst the clouds, after the temperature rises, after the first buds are seen on the trees, after the restoration of vitamin d in our blood, after the taste of a crisp cider on a warm day hits the tongue, after many months of wearing trousers I can finally air the paler than white limbs of mine, after...after...after all that April is the month when a new grand national winner is crowned king of the toughest steeplechase in the world. I can safely say without hesitation that this years national is probably the most competitive yet, the handicapper has given everything a chance this year and I'm happy with the three selections that I'll be following. Grand National Selections: Selection 1: Onenightinvienna  Trained by Philip Hobbs ...

A real Christmas Cracker! Kempton Park Boxing Day.

The festive season has begun for me, sitting down with my Santa hat, a mince pie and a pint of guinness all points to a very content and relaxed feel to this weeks blogg. Merry Christmas everyone and boy we got some racing to look forward too. It's important to remember that with over three months or so before Cheltenham the trainers, owners, jocks and all us normal folk are looking forward to seeing a magnificient build up and thats why Boxing day at Kempton park is the place to be. On with the card... 12.50 Kempton 2m Hurdle It was nice to tip TETLAMI last time out at Sandown and I certainly wont be deserting this five year old just yet. Looked a picture in the paddock at Sandown, ran on strongly in the finish and will love softer ground than some of these if indeed it is on the softer side. Nicky Henderson showed his class in training this one to victory after a long lay off. I believe another win is possible and with Barry Geraghty on board I'm full of optimism. 1.2...

Royal Ascot Preview 2013

The centrepiece of our flat season is almost upon us, this time of year when our thoroughbreds have illustrated enough talent on the racecourse they now gain a chance at landing a big prize at Her Majesty's Royal Ascot. My first preview blog of the meeting quite logical focuses on the first day and it's my pleasure to outline my thoughts on the week ahead starting tonight. The main news this week regarding Henry Cecil is extremely sad, as many have mentioned with wonderful prose regarding the publics favourite, a horse handler who cared for his animals with the midas touch and a trainer who had the ambition and determination to never say 'enoughs enough' even when he was down to around 40 horses in the early 2000's or the pressure and stress in his private life. He is and will always be remembered as a true gentleman and a phenomenal trainer. It's also worth noting that he had an absolute terryifyingly good record at Royal Ascot and it just wont be the same w...
