The winter months are now upon us and the chill around the neck, feet and hands isnt going to sway for a few months now, but the new jump season is upon us and nothing is going to keep the blood pumping more than this years season.
This card at Aintree is usually the opener for things to come and what a super line up of hurdlers and chacers. Its very importnat now to switch back into the habits of checking the form but as always a progressive, scopey type is without question what I'll be looking for, that principal will never change. On with the card.
Aintree 2.25 2m 1f Hurdle
The trainer Phil Hobbs has been nothing but a revelation to follow in the last few years and has won this race in the last two years. An astute trainer who will again retain the superlative jockey Richard Johnson a man I would trust on any horse. However Hobbs doesnt have one lining up here and I'm quite taken anyhow by the current form of Charlie Longsden who again is going to have a superb season. PAINTBALL under the competent jockey Noel Fehily looks the one to beat. PAINTBALL had a cracking season over hurdles last year and looks sure to continue. Its last run at Cheltenham when staying on at the last and jumping fluently throughout illustrates more undoubtedly is to come from this bay gelding.
2.55 3m 1f Handicap Chase
The veterans go to post here and I for one love these races, these 10 year old plus horses still love the game. However, last years loss of Eric's Charm was a sad moment for these veteran races and will always go down as one of my favourite jumpers, not least because he loved Sandown Park so much. Anyway, I'm sticking with Charlie Longsden again here, FAR MORE SERIOUS
definitely needed it's last run, blowing a few cobwebs away in doing so. Will get the trip here, if it runs up to the same level of form as it did back in March at Newbury this horse will take all the beating again with the yard in form and yet another talented jockey in the shape of Paddy Brennan, has a great chance.
3.30 Old Roan Chace 2m 4f
Last years winner Monet's Garden will alway always been one of my favourite jumpers forever a beautiful grey who loved it around Aintree. Here only three go to post which is a little disappointing but MASTER MINDED is undoubtedly the class horse here. Since taking to the chasing game has taken to it like a duck to water. Wont be beaten, cant wait to see him run in what could be another successful campaign.
4.05 3m Novices Handicap Hurdle
GORMANSTOWN CUCKOO this Irish performer is nothing but a consistent type. Ruby Walsh takes charge here and looks like he'll score . The trip, ground and course will all suit this gelding. The horse is a very fluent jumper and usually likes top of the ground. In terms of how this horse will run I imagine will be handy throughout which is a positive around Aintree, a strong run from the front could be the way in which this horse will win. Dictating the pace, not worrying about the weight its carrying as the master Ruby will deliver this horse at the right time.
4.40 2m Novices Chase
HAVINGOTASCOOBYDO had already won between the flags and over hurdles before lining up for a novice chase at Ffos Las 13 days ago. Martin Keighleys charge hailing from a yard I will be watching closely this season still jumped with great aplong and zest. This horse was nothing but aesthetically pleasing to the eye winning by a convincing 10 lengths at Ffos Las, will take all the beating, my strong fancy of the day!
Good Luck if your having a punt! Bring on the Jump Season!
