St Ledger Week Friday 9th September

Another great day of racing at Doncaster to look forward to and this card seems a little more intriguing than Thursday's and thats why I'm gonna take you through my selections almost across all races tomorrow.

Doncaster 1.25 5f Childer Stakes

Sometimes in racing you come across a sprinter that you like to follow and hope that in all its races it tries hard and gives you a chance every time you back it. This race is full of those types of horses and cases can be made for quite a few. However, it seems David Wachman obviously believes hugely in his Dansili colt REQUINTO and looks a more 5 furlong specialist than the rest in this field. The form lines are strong for this horse particularly beating Burwaaz and Vocational on its appearance at Goodwood the time before last, in doing so REQUINTO won the Molecomb stakes and looked in command throughout. The only negative would be it's last run but that could be blamed by the ground that day and may have been caught knapping a little in the early part of the race, it could also be said that it was racing in a competitive heat with older more developed progressive horses. Strong fancy.

1.55 1m 6f Mallard Handicap.

The order of the day here is a staying horse that is progressing and weighted to suit. In this race however that is hard to find, the flat season is in its final chapter and some of these have been on the go for quite a while and some are totally exposed. Now what? Well its interesting to see that BOURNE partners Kieran Fallon here and looks like the longer trip could suit this grey gelding is still given lumps of weight from the majority of rivals, has won at Doncaster before and with those two factors in mind will certainly go close tomorrow.

2.25 2m 2f Handicap

SADDLER'S ROCK is a horse who looks to be progressing in the right way, still only a three year old trained by the legend John Oxx looks to have a live chance here. The horse receives alot of weight from its rivals. If the ground is the softer side of good that will not hamper this horses chances can go on any ground. I believe its progress to date shows its on an upward curve and a trip over the Irish Sea will not of been wasted. Finally, plenty of these horses are either exposed or have had pretty tiresome season, a newcomer of this kind can indeed take this prize.

Jeremy Noseda took this race with Simply Perfect back in 2006 and I believe he can do the same again this year with REGAL REALM. Very impressive last time out running on in the closing stages suggesting that a mile is within this fillies grasp. The pedigree suggests that this classy filly can get the mile as she hails from Shaadi a high class miler. The tacky ground she won on last time suggests a little juice wont matter too much and a composed ride from Jimmy Fortune who is ever so strong in a finish illustrates this horse has the pedigree, class and stamina to win this contest.

4.10 6f Handicap

Handicap, big field, high numbers usually the best option, who's ot chances then? Well this is a mindfield but it is quite enjoyable to go through and see the form lines between alot of these thoroughbreds as most have come up against each other. Making cases for a few is an understatement but I have to say I like the look of GRISSOM here and the reason is this, at the age of 5 still looks progressive, has course form, is chasing a hat trick of wins for a trainer who is in outstanding form and usually has quite a few winners at the track and who is in superb form at this present time, that man in Tim Easterby.

Good Luck if your havng a punt!

Grand National Selections.

How I'm feeling about the upcoming Grand National Neptune Collognes - 2012 Grand National hero This time of year never fails to stir the soul both tangibly and metaphorically. After the sun peeps it's head out from amongst the clouds, after the temperature rises, after the first buds are seen on the trees, after the restoration of vitamin d in our blood, after the taste of a crisp cider on a warm day hits the tongue, after many months of wearing trousers I can finally air the paler than white limbs of mine, after...after...after all that April is the month when a new grand national winner is crowned king of the toughest steeplechase in the world. I can safely say without hesitation that this years national is probably the most competitive yet, the handicapper has given everything a chance this year and I'm happy with the three selections that I'll be following. A real Christmas Cracker! Kempton Park Boxing Day.

The festive season has begun for me, sitting down with my Santa hat, a mince pie and a pint of guinness all points to a very content and relaxed feel to this weeks blogg. Merry Christmas everyone and boy we got some racing to look forward too. It's important to remember that with over three months or so before Cheltenham the trainers, owners, jocks and all us normal folk are looking forward to seeing a magnificient build up and thats why Boxing day at Kempton park is the place to be. On with the card... 12.50 Kempton 2m Hurdle It was nice to tip TETLAMI last time out at Sandown and I certainly wont be deserting this five year old just yet. Looked a picture in the paddock at Sandown, ran on strongly in the finish and will love softer ground than some of these if indeed it is on the softer side. Nicky Henderson showed his class in training this one to victory after a long lay off. I believe another win is possible and with Barry Geraghty on board I'm full of optimism. 1.2...

Royal Ascot Preview 2013

The centrepiece of our flat season is almost upon us, this time of year when our thoroughbreds have illustrated enough talent on the racecourse they now gain a chance at landing a big prize at Her Majesty's Royal Ascot. My first preview blog of the meeting quite logical focuses on the first day and it's my pleasure to outline my thoughts on the week ahead starting tonight. The main news this week regarding Henry Cecil is extremely sad, as many have mentioned with wonderful prose regarding the publics favourite, a horse handler who cared for his animals with the midas touch and a trainer who had the ambition and determination to never say 'enoughs enough' even when he was down to around 40 horses in the early 2000's or the pressure and stress in his private life. He is and will always be remembered as a true gentleman and a phenomenal trainer. It's also worth noting that he had an absolute terryifyingly good record at Royal Ascot and it just wont be the same w...
