St Ledger Festival Wednesday 7th September

St Ledger winner Frankie with Sir Michael Stoute
It's St Ledger week and what a great few days in prospect, I'm very much looking forward to terrific cards throughout the next few days with championship jockey hopefuls Paul Hanagan and Kieran Fallon determined to pick up as many winners possible in order to be crowned champion jockey this season. Furthermore the anticipation to see the oldest classic in the world this Saturday gets the mouth watering with the line up. I'll be tipping Blue Bunting to go and do it for Goldolphin Saturday but please keep checking the blogg for tips throughout the week. Leave a comment if you wish...

OK, here are my tips foe Wednesday 7th September, Good Luck...

2.00 7f Nursery

Twelve youngsters go to post here in what is a good quality nursery without question. The trainers to take note of at Doncaster is without question three trainers that have horses in with chances those include Hannon, Johnson and Gosden. So out of those three the winner here points to Richard Hannons horses MAGIC CITY and WOLFGANG the latter at an each way price. I'll start with MAGIC CITY this horse to date has underachieved somewhat, the horse has been placed in a higher sphere than most of these and in doing so has found quite a few a little better. However the pedigree suggests that an extra furlong could be the making of this horse stepping it up in distance, the ground wont be an issue as long as Richard Hughes doesn't try to be too clever a good run is expected. WOLFGANG has been a consistent type, I believe the step up to the mile last time out didn't suit this colt and the 7f trip will suit much better. Once again a better horse than most of these on its form and I believe it could quite easily be a 1,2 for the Hannon's tomorrow.

2.35 6f Stakes Race

Just the five in this heat but still a very competitive race. All things considered the top three in the betting wont be separated by much in this race. However EUREKA the Hannon horse yet again is the way to go here I was very impressed by its maiden and its win over the 6f at Salisbury in June was a scintillating performance. Hannon has progressively introduced this horse to better class races and was far from disgraced in its last teo starts particularly in the Super Sprint at Newbury. A guaranteed stayer over the six, will get the trip and another win for Hannon.

3.10 Scarborough Stakes 5f

An even better sprint race here in which only three favourites have won since 1994 quite a stat that, its also important to add that three year old's have done particularly badly throughout the history of this race. Its a tricky race and going against my previous trends I've mentioned because I think DINKUM DIAMOND a three year old has a cracking chance and backable this evening at around 6/1. This horse is a quality sprinter and has a bit of class about him the trainer Henry Candy hasnt had the greatest of seasons but has also spoken very positively about this colt. The horse has a rating of 106 but I believe that will go up, the strong form line through Margot Did who ran a blinder to win the Nunthorpe at York last week losing by around five lengths is still a positive for me but more importantly its last run to finish third behind Duchess Dora and Tangerine Trees the former is running again but I believe the ground will suit DINKUM DIAMOND and this class animal can reverse that form.

Only those three for me tomorrow, Good Luck if your having a bet!

Grand National Selections.

How I'm feeling about the upcoming Grand National Neptune Collognes - 2012 Grand National hero This time of year never fails to stir the soul both tangibly and metaphorically. After the sun peeps it's head out from amongst the clouds, after the temperature rises, after the first buds are seen on the trees, after the restoration of vitamin d in our blood, after the taste of a crisp cider on a warm day hits the tongue, after many months of wearing trousers I can finally air the paler than white limbs of mine, after...after...after all that April is the month when a new grand national winner is crowned king of the toughest steeplechase in the world. I can safely say without hesitation that this years national is probably the most competitive yet, the handicapper has given everything a chance this year and I'm happy with the three selections that I'll be following. Grand National Selections: Selection 1: Onenightinvienna  Trained by Philip Hobbs ...

A real Christmas Cracker! Kempton Park Boxing Day.

The festive season has begun for me, sitting down with my Santa hat, a mince pie and a pint of guinness all points to a very content and relaxed feel to this weeks blogg. Merry Christmas everyone and boy we got some racing to look forward too. It's important to remember that with over three months or so before Cheltenham the trainers, owners, jocks and all us normal folk are looking forward to seeing a magnificient build up and thats why Boxing day at Kempton park is the place to be. On with the card... 12.50 Kempton 2m Hurdle It was nice to tip TETLAMI last time out at Sandown and I certainly wont be deserting this five year old just yet. Looked a picture in the paddock at Sandown, ran on strongly in the finish and will love softer ground than some of these if indeed it is on the softer side. Nicky Henderson showed his class in training this one to victory after a long lay off. I believe another win is possible and with Barry Geraghty on board I'm full of optimism. 1.2...

Royal Ascot Preview 2013

The centrepiece of our flat season is almost upon us, this time of year when our thoroughbreds have illustrated enough talent on the racecourse they now gain a chance at landing a big prize at Her Majesty's Royal Ascot. My first preview blog of the meeting quite logical focuses on the first day and it's my pleasure to outline my thoughts on the week ahead starting tonight. The main news this week regarding Henry Cecil is extremely sad, as many have mentioned with wonderful prose regarding the publics favourite, a horse handler who cared for his animals with the midas touch and a trainer who had the ambition and determination to never say 'enoughs enough' even when he was down to around 40 horses in the early 2000's or the pressure and stress in his private life. He is and will always be remembered as a true gentleman and a phenomenal trainer. It's also worth noting that he had an absolute terryifyingly good record at Royal Ascot and it just wont be the same w...
