York Ebor Festival Saturday 20th August

Ok so an interesting day yesterday again impressed with Green Destiny but was very pleased to see Margot Did (tipped yesterday) at a tasty 20/1. On to todays tips.

2.00 City of York Stakes 7f

Another difficult yet interesting start to proceedings, in recent years it looks like the 3 and 4 year olds have usually held the answer to this race.Quite of few have been in the race before and have won this prize like the likes of Dream Eater and Waa Yayl both look exposed enough if you aske me so I'll be rooting for the champion jock Paul Hanagan to come up trumps here. MAJESTIC MYLES ran a blinder at Chester the time before last in wasnt quite good enough at Goodwood last time out but I can forgive him that as still only a three year old and still looks progressive this horse should be a nice each way price and I'd advice to go each way.

2.30 Melrose Handicap 1m 6f

Staying is the game here but do any have the turn of foot to finish strongly in the finish and outpace the others.Again quite a conundrum and you could pick quite a few here but I'll stick my neck out and suggest another runner at an each way price because I believe you gotta look for a bit of value in a tricky contest like thisand that can be found in the shape of WHIPLASH WILLIE love the name but looking at how close trainer Andrew Balding has been in the last two weeks or so I'm sure he'll be a little luckier here. If you look at its last run you can see that it was staying on gamely in its last run and I belive can stay the extra two furlongs, ground is not a concern and the jockey on board is a terrific pilot again this should be a nice each way price.

3.05 Lonsdale Cup 2m

Intriguing some stepping up in trip others been here before and I'm going with an out and out stayer who ran a blinder at Goodwood last time out only just failing to make the line and being robbed near the finish by Opinion Poll and lost in the moment. This horse has also lost to Duncan in the past but I'm willing to give it another chance and thats BLUE BAJAN usually travels well in a race throughout and will be again an each way price.

3.40 The Ebor 1m 6f

Ok firstly let me make it clear I've never been close in tipping the Ebor winner but I'm relatively confident about this horse putting in a strong performance even though its top weight. The weight is an obvious concern but this horse ticks alot of boxes like ground, trip and the fact that it has held a few of these other horses in the past FOX HUNT is the one at a nice each way price.

Good Luck if your having a punt!

Grand National Selections.

How I'm feeling about the upcoming Grand National Neptune Collognes - 2012 Grand National hero This time of year never fails to stir the soul both tangibly and metaphorically. After the sun peeps it's head out from amongst the clouds, after the temperature rises, after the first buds are seen on the trees, after the restoration of vitamin d in our blood, after the taste of a crisp cider on a warm day hits the tongue, after many months of wearing trousers I can finally air the paler than white limbs of mine, after...after...after all that April is the month when a new grand national winner is crowned king of the toughest steeplechase in the world. I can safely say without hesitation that this years national is probably the most competitive yet, the handicapper has given everything a chance this year and I'm happy with the three selections that I'll be following. Grand National Selections: Selection 1: Onenightinvienna  Trained by Philip Hobbs ...

A real Christmas Cracker! Kempton Park Boxing Day.

The festive season has begun for me, sitting down with my Santa hat, a mince pie and a pint of guinness all points to a very content and relaxed feel to this weeks blogg. Merry Christmas everyone and boy we got some racing to look forward too. It's important to remember that with over three months or so before Cheltenham the trainers, owners, jocks and all us normal folk are looking forward to seeing a magnificient build up and thats why Boxing day at Kempton park is the place to be. On with the card... 12.50 Kempton 2m Hurdle It was nice to tip TETLAMI last time out at Sandown and I certainly wont be deserting this five year old just yet. Looked a picture in the paddock at Sandown, ran on strongly in the finish and will love softer ground than some of these if indeed it is on the softer side. Nicky Henderson showed his class in training this one to victory after a long lay off. I believe another win is possible and with Barry Geraghty on board I'm full of optimism. 1.2...

Royal Ascot Preview 2013

The centrepiece of our flat season is almost upon us, this time of year when our thoroughbreds have illustrated enough talent on the racecourse they now gain a chance at landing a big prize at Her Majesty's Royal Ascot. My first preview blog of the meeting quite logical focuses on the first day and it's my pleasure to outline my thoughts on the week ahead starting tonight. The main news this week regarding Henry Cecil is extremely sad, as many have mentioned with wonderful prose regarding the publics favourite, a horse handler who cared for his animals with the midas touch and a trainer who had the ambition and determination to never say 'enoughs enough' even when he was down to around 40 horses in the early 2000's or the pressure and stress in his private life. He is and will always be remembered as a true gentleman and a phenomenal trainer. It's also worth noting that he had an absolute terryifyingly good record at Royal Ascot and it just wont be the same w...
