York Ebor Festival Day 3 Friday 19th August

Great to see Frankie give a terrific ride to the super Blue Bunting today a true stayer. On to tomorrows/todays action.

York 2.00 1m 4f Handicap

From the outset looking at this bunch its a bit of a mindfield, the questions you have to ask yourself are who is weighted correctly, who could be a little more progressive and who likes the track and ground? If you get positives throughout your answers to those questions then thats the horse to be on. Obviously horseracing isnt as easy as that a good 20 go to post here and this is tricky. With that in mind I have to opt for two horses, the line of form I'm using could be perceived as speculative but I believe if you way up The Fonz who won this race last use and use his rivals as a guide you may find the gem of a horse who will take this prize. I dont feel the Fonz will win again so I'm looking at two horses LIFE AND SOUL who finished third is this last year is in consistent form, will get trip on this ground and with Daryl Holland in the saddle a strong chance is given to this Azamour colt. TROOPINGTHECOLOUR is my other, this horse finished in front of the Fonz last time out I believe is a progressive type and looks like it will see out this trip. Olivia Peslier the jockey booking also rings out a clear expectancy from the trainer and has a great chance at a nice each way price.

2.30 6f Class 1

JUSTINEO the form is good and this horse really got to grips with how to get your head infront in its last start winning comfortably in the process and in a very solid time. The horses breeding is also top class and will look to get further in time being out of a Montjeu mare the horse will enjoy the holding ground and with that in mind I'm not afraid of the likely Hannon trained favourite  (Libourne Lad) undoubtedly has claims but may not enjoy the ground as much. If you look at JUSTINEO's last run you can not but be taken by just how easily he won. Every chance!

3.05 1m 208y Class 1

The question here is do we put a line through Green Destiny's last run and put it down to a minor blip because if this horse runs to its full potential then I have no doubt that it will take all the beating. However you have to take into account that Godolphin horses have won this race four times in the last ten years so I'm looking at BIONDETTI to win with Dux Scholar a close second. Its a very tight call between those two but this horse will of sharpened up for its good second at Maisson Laffite in France last time out and will improve again. Al Zarooni trained horses have been doing very well this month and I think this horse can take the step up to this company, will enjoy the ground, with Dettori in confident mood after todays win on Blue Bunting I believe has a solid chance at an each way price.

3.40 5f Nunthorpe Stakes

One of the sprint highlights of the year, particularly when a 100/1 shot goes and wins it like last years race won by Sole Power who lines up again here for this renewal and what a race, the quality is outstanding!. So where will the winner come from and will it be a worthwhile price? The answer is difficult to find but I do believe REQUINTO is very very interesting for a few reasons. Firstly a two year old can win this race as proven by Kingsgate Native so running against 3 year olds and above isnt an issue for me not with this horse, secondly the weight allowance is mammoth so not much to find on Hoof it if you ask me, the trainer obviously thinks a hell of alot about him to put him in against these horses, ran extremely impressively to win the Molecomb Stakes at Goodwood last time (you can check below but was tipped by my good self) and no ground concerns. I'm also keen on MARGOT DID at a big each way price which doesnt concern me at all, this filly who gets a weight allowance against the colts recaptured her old self in recent runs, the filly will love the ground and with Hayley Turner riding extremely well at the moment I can see this filly in the shake up at the end. Her last run at Sandown could potentially of be blamed on the draw but her previous two starts at Ayr and Sandown show just how good she is!

Good Luck if your having a punt!

Grand National Selections.

How I'm feeling about the upcoming Grand National Neptune Collognes - 2012 Grand National hero This time of year never fails to stir the soul both tangibly and metaphorically. After the sun peeps it's head out from amongst the clouds, after the temperature rises, after the first buds are seen on the trees, after the restoration of vitamin d in our blood, after the taste of a crisp cider on a warm day hits the tongue, after many months of wearing trousers I can finally air the paler than white limbs of mine, after...after...after all that April is the month when a new grand national winner is crowned king of the toughest steeplechase in the world. I can safely say without hesitation that this years national is probably the most competitive yet, the handicapper has given everything a chance this year and I'm happy with the three selections that I'll be following. A real Christmas Cracker! Kempton Park Boxing Day.

The festive season has begun for me, sitting down with my Santa hat, a mince pie and a pint of guinness all points to a very content and relaxed feel to this weeks blogg. Merry Christmas everyone and boy we got some racing to look forward too. It's important to remember that with over three months or so before Cheltenham the trainers, owners, jocks and all us normal folk are looking forward to seeing a magnificient build up and thats why Boxing day at Kempton park is the place to be. On with the card... 12.50 Kempton 2m Hurdle It was nice to tip TETLAMI last time out at Sandown and I certainly wont be deserting this five year old just yet. Looked a picture in the paddock at Sandown, ran on strongly in the finish and will love softer ground than some of these if indeed it is on the softer side. Nicky Henderson showed his class in training this one to victory after a long lay off. I believe another win is possible and with Barry Geraghty on board I'm full of optimism. 1.2...

Royal Ascot Preview 2013

The centrepiece of our flat season is almost upon us, this time of year when our thoroughbreds have illustrated enough talent on the racecourse they now gain a chance at landing a big prize at Her Majesty's Royal Ascot. My first preview blog of the meeting quite logical focuses on the first day and it's my pleasure to outline my thoughts on the week ahead starting tonight. The main news this week regarding Henry Cecil is extremely sad, as many have mentioned with wonderful prose regarding the publics favourite, a horse handler who cared for his animals with the midas touch and a trainer who had the ambition and determination to never say 'enoughs enough' even when he was down to around 40 horses in the early 2000's or the pressure and stress in his private life. He is and will always be remembered as a true gentleman and a phenomenal trainer. It's also worth noting that he had an absolute terryifyingly good record at Royal Ascot and it just wont be the same w...
