Goodwood Saturday 27th August 2011

Its that time of the week again when we look forward to the upcoming racing and this week its from Goodwood. An ok card here just a shame about the number of runners.
As usually I will go through the card gving a clear insight into my selections.

Recent winners tipped:-

Margot Did 20/1 and Blue Bunting at around 3/1

So on to Saturday's card,

Goodwood

2.15 1m 6f

Only six go to post here which is disappointing we have enough stayers here in England and Ireland to have a few more in this contest. However still an intriguing race but one which is easily solved and my nap in the first goes to DRUNKEN SAILOR (NAP). Strongly fancy this horse who undoubtedly will go off favourite and possibly even a shade of odds on. However lets look at the reasons, lets start with the obvious a jockey who wants to win the flat championship this year Kieran Fallon on board, a horse that will stay the trip and will relish the gorund if it has a little cut, is the highest rated but is that any wonder when its run here last time out was so convincing and seems to love Goodwood winning this race twelve months ago. This horse has the beating off any of its rivals here and it just wont be beaten even with the weight penalty. Strongly fancied.

2.50 7f for fillies

As mentioned before in my blogg the ability to use all facets of information about the race, horse and trainer is crucial. But here form is the crucial deciding factor and REGAL REALM gets the nod. Her run in the Princess Margarat stakes at Ascot over a slightly shorter trip is the pick, that form on a good/soft surface will see her well over this trip tomorrow and I believe with Jeremy Noseda's horses in cracking form this filly will take all the beating.

3.20 The Celebration 1m

Its a real shame that again numbers aren't great for this years renewal seven oing to post which is always disappointing from an each way perspective as thats what I would be looking for here. Poets Voice the lightly favourite has a few questions marks for me, ran porrly in Dubai over a trip that certainly didnt suit last time out back in March and hasnt been seen since, however did win this race last year and looks a cut above the rest hailing from the Goldophin yard of Saeed Bin Suroor you have to be silly not to discount his chances . Unfortunately each way punters will only get two places here so I'll be swerving to bet here. However I'll stick my neck out as I can see BEACON LODGE running a big race, this horse has been up against some of the best 7f/1milers in the country only a length and half behind strong suit, libranno and byword who are all quality animals I can see this horse running very well indeed. Another factor is that this horse finished in front of Dubawi Gold last time out and softer conditions wont hinder this horses chances.

3.50 Heritage Handicap 7f

Handicaps of this nature and size are always exciting but hard to solve. I'm going for a horse that will be a tidy each way price and that showed a step up to 7f maybe the making of this horse who was highly rated at the start of the season. This horse is still only 4 and still seems to be progressing. I say this because if you look at its last run at this track it was eating up the ground inside the final furlong but just couldnt get to the first few. I believe this trip at this course could be the making of PASTORAL PLAYER.

Grand National Selections.

How I'm feeling about the upcoming Grand National Neptune Collognes - 2012 Grand National hero This time of year never fails to stir the soul both tangibly and metaphorically. After the sun peeps it's head out from amongst the clouds, after the temperature rises, after the first buds are seen on the trees, after the restoration of vitamin d in our blood, after the taste of a crisp cider on a warm day hits the tongue, after many months of wearing trousers I can finally air the paler than white limbs of mine, after...after...after all that April is the month when a new grand national winner is crowned king of the toughest steeplechase in the world. I can safely say without hesitation that this years national is probably the most competitive yet, the handicapper has given everything a chance this year and I'm happy with the three selections that I'll be following. Grand National Selections: Selection 1: Onenightinvienna  Trained by Philip Hobbs ...

A real Christmas Cracker! Kempton Park Boxing Day.

The festive season has begun for me, sitting down with my Santa hat, a mince pie and a pint of guinness all points to a very content and relaxed feel to this weeks blogg. Merry Christmas everyone and boy we got some racing to look forward too. It's important to remember that with over three months or so before Cheltenham the trainers, owners, jocks and all us normal folk are looking forward to seeing a magnificient build up and thats why Boxing day at Kempton park is the place to be. On with the card... 12.50 Kempton 2m Hurdle It was nice to tip TETLAMI last time out at Sandown and I certainly wont be deserting this five year old just yet. Looked a picture in the paddock at Sandown, ran on strongly in the finish and will love softer ground than some of these if indeed it is on the softer side. Nicky Henderson showed his class in training this one to victory after a long lay off. I believe another win is possible and with Barry Geraghty on board I'm full of optimism. 1.2...

Royal Ascot Preview 2013

The centrepiece of our flat season is almost upon us, this time of year when our thoroughbreds have illustrated enough talent on the racecourse they now gain a chance at landing a big prize at Her Majesty's Royal Ascot. My first preview blog of the meeting quite logical focuses on the first day and it's my pleasure to outline my thoughts on the week ahead starting tonight. The main news this week regarding Henry Cecil is extremely sad, as many have mentioned with wonderful prose regarding the publics favourite, a horse handler who cared for his animals with the midas touch and a trainer who had the ambition and determination to never say 'enoughs enough' even when he was down to around 40 horses in the early 2000's or the pressure and stress in his private life. He is and will always be remembered as a true gentleman and a phenomenal trainer. It's also worth noting that he had an absolute terryifyingly good record at Royal Ascot and it just wont be the same w...
