The Ebor meeting York Day 1 (August 17th 2011)

Hello everyone and welcome back to another installment of my horseracing blogg, lets face it its been a while! As I'm very much looking forward to the start of the Ebor meeting at York I just couldnt wait another day to post my selections. All being well they will all go to post!
The Beautiful Knavesmire

Here we go and remember please read its all about opinions, any comments would be greatly appreciated on this page, why not have your say!

York

2.00pm 5f 89y Handicap

The previous two winners of this race came from high draw numbers and last years winner Hamish McGonagall came down the middle but slightly more towards the stand side and I believe that this could happen again. However, I'm a firm believer in taking into account trainers that have done well at this track and with the inclusion of form and handicap marks I believe that Richard Fahey's runners cannot be dismissed and will certainly figure here, a trainer with a fantastic track record and a trainer in form and I believe IRISH HEARTBEAT has a great chance here ran a blinder last time out at Doncaster will enjoy the trip and ground and has a nice draw in 13. My other more interesting runner for me who I believe will run a huge race is the Ed Dunlop gelding KANAF when you look at the form its 5th at Goodwood against hoof it last time out was a very commendable performance in a big field. If you then go back in its form you can see that this horse can act on a softer surface and looks a good each way price. A tricky contest all the same.

2.30pm 7f (Group 3)

Only limited form to go on and it really is a question here of who is the most progressive from there racecourse experience. Not an easy race as some may of progressed by quite a bit. So as its early in the week and if the ground drys up I'll be having the Barry Hill trained BALTY BOYS looks progressive and I was blown away by its last race at Newbury winning by 4 and half lengths and a beautifully bred Cape Cross colt whenever I say that name I always think of the phenomenal Sea the Stars. Drier ground this is definitely the one to be on. If its the softer side of good the man from Ireland AP O'Brien is definitely the man to turn too and I'll be backing his son on FURNERS GREEN to be there or there abouts at a nice each way price hopefully.

3.05 The Great Voltigeur 1m 4f.

Strongly fancy NAMIBIAN here, this horse has progressed throughout this season and I was impressed by it win in the Gordons Stakes at Goodwood. York is certainly a track that can suit prominent runners like this Cape Cross gelding and I've also be very impressed by the jockey Silvestre De Sousa this season who gave this horse a great ride last time out. Mark Johnston always produces battling horses particularly in the finish and this horse is the one to be on.

3.40 Juddmonte International Stakes1m 2f 88ys

When the boys meet the girls in a competitive contest in any job, sport or even argument its always a bad idea to undermind the intelligence, strength and determination from the females. I'm going to select a strong filly here and one I hae backed before. MIDDAY here is a filly that will make the colts quiver (a little at least) Midday loves this track at York and has one on her last previous start there. Another important point is ground Midday can run on all surfaces, preferably with cut but not essential. I'd also love a win for Ian Mongan who in my opinion is a very underrated jockey. Of course you can make cases for Await the Dawn who is potentially a superstar and Twice Over the stablemate of Midday but she is an out and out stayer and my selection again running for the genius Sir Henry!

4.15 2 yo Nusery 6f

NEARLY A GIFT as previously mentioned trainers that do well at this track is always a stat worth following and that can be said of Tim Easterby a very good strike rate at York and I'm confident this horse can get the ball rolling. I progressive two year old who has ran very well in its last two starts just headed in the furlong last time out and hung a little. If this horse can learn from that then this bay filly will certainly have a chance again at an each way squeak.

Grand National Selections.

How I'm feeling about the upcoming Grand National Neptune Collognes - 2012 Grand National hero This time of year never fails to stir the soul both tangibly and metaphorically. After the sun peeps it's head out from amongst the clouds, after the temperature rises, after the first buds are seen on the trees, after the restoration of vitamin d in our blood, after the taste of a crisp cider on a warm day hits the tongue, after many months of wearing trousers I can finally air the paler than white limbs of mine, after...after...after all that April is the month when a new grand national winner is crowned king of the toughest steeplechase in the world. I can safely say without hesitation that this years national is probably the most competitive yet, the handicapper has given everything a chance this year and I'm happy with the three selections that I'll be following. A real Christmas Cracker! Kempton Park Boxing Day.

The festive season has begun for me, sitting down with my Santa hat, a mince pie and a pint of guinness all points to a very content and relaxed feel to this weeks blogg. Merry Christmas everyone and boy we got some racing to look forward too. It's important to remember that with over three months or so before Cheltenham the trainers, owners, jocks and all us normal folk are looking forward to seeing a magnificient build up and thats why Boxing day at Kempton park is the place to be. On with the card... 12.50 Kempton 2m Hurdle It was nice to tip TETLAMI last time out at Sandown and I certainly wont be deserting this five year old just yet. Looked a picture in the paddock at Sandown, ran on strongly in the finish and will love softer ground than some of these if indeed it is on the softer side. Nicky Henderson showed his class in training this one to victory after a long lay off. I believe another win is possible and with Barry Geraghty on board I'm full of optimism. 1.2...

Royal Ascot Preview 2013

The centrepiece of our flat season is almost upon us, this time of year when our thoroughbreds have illustrated enough talent on the racecourse they now gain a chance at landing a big prize at Her Majesty's Royal Ascot. My first preview blog of the meeting quite logical focuses on the first day and it's my pleasure to outline my thoughts on the week ahead starting tonight. The main news this week regarding Henry Cecil is extremely sad, as many have mentioned with wonderful prose regarding the publics favourite, a horse handler who cared for his animals with the midas touch and a trainer who had the ambition and determination to never say 'enoughs enough' even when he was down to around 40 horses in the early 2000's or the pressure and stress in his private life. He is and will always be remembered as a true gentleman and a phenomenal trainer. It's also worth noting that he had an absolute terryifyingly good record at Royal Ascot and it just wont be the same w...
