Newmarket July meeting and a bit of York!

How good is it when you wake up to an exciting Saturday of racing, this weekend features so much I've been selective in my approach, biggish price choices today, you have been warned but again I make valid cases for all these horses, so here are my selections for today.

Newmarket Bunbury Cup 7f  2.55pm

I do like a big handicap every now and again, however I could of easily swerved this race put I believe I have two horses who will go very close here. If you look at the history of this race three year olds have not been very prevalent in winning this. I'm having a bit of each way on KING OF DIXIE this horse if it can recapture some of last seasons form and reproduce the Class 1 victories it made last year will have every chance in this race. In its last run it weakened inside the final furlong and I hope getting that last run into this horse will freshen it up and be in with place claims at the very least. Second horse is CROWN CHOICE, came fourth in this race last year, has the right profile to get the extra furlong in this hottly contested race and again can see this horse being in the frame. Also the jockey booking of Kieran Fallon is a big plus in a race of this kind. I also gave drawn a line through its last run as it didnt have a clear passage and ran no sort of race, willing to give both these horses a chance at a nice each way price on both!

The July Cup 3.35

COME ON DELEGATOR!!!

A cracking renewal!! This race has some upcoming superstars in the shape of bated breath who undoutedly has a chance here. The Aussie racer also has a squeak with the good form it showed at Royal Ascot but DELEGATOR has the vote for me. This horse undoutedly has improved for going to the Godolphin yard and yes the  trainer has enabled this horse to show just how classy this animal is. I was very taken by his previous performance at York over 6f staying on gamely and bravely in my opinion to win by an accelerating half length. DELEGATOR for me. I'm also looking at DREAM AHEAD  as an each way bet, this horse has been touted as a champion in waiting and I was at Champions Day in October to see this horse not settle and in doing so ran a stinker. However I'm more than willing to give this horse another chance as its form as a two year old was simply breathtaking. I also like the fact the Hayley Turner is on board a fantastic female jockey now at the  height of her career.

Now to York

3.15 John Smiths Cup

Now here again is an interesting handicap. I think the handicapper is correct in the main but KAY GEE BEE could be one out of the handicappers grip. Running here off a low weight, will like the track and ground, the trainer is in good form and with the champion jockey on board I'm struggling to see how this horse is such an outside price at 25/1 currently. The other horse in this race to mention is GREEN DESTINY I've liked this horse for a while now and again I think its still rated correctly by the handicapper, this horse is a progressive type but on both these horses the trip is the biggest question mark ??

And thats my tips for today, good luck!

Grand National Selections.

How I'm feeling about the upcoming Grand National Neptune Collognes - 2012 Grand National hero This time of year never fails to stir the soul both tangibly and metaphorically. After the sun peeps it's head out from amongst the clouds, after the temperature rises, after the first buds are seen on the trees, after the restoration of vitamin d in our blood, after the taste of a crisp cider on a warm day hits the tongue, after many months of wearing trousers I can finally air the paler than white limbs of mine, after...after...after all that April is the month when a new grand national winner is crowned king of the toughest steeplechase in the world. I can safely say without hesitation that this years national is probably the most competitive yet, the handicapper has given everything a chance this year and I'm happy with the three selections that I'll be following. A real Christmas Cracker! Kempton Park Boxing Day.

The festive season has begun for me, sitting down with my Santa hat, a mince pie and a pint of guinness all points to a very content and relaxed feel to this weeks blogg. Merry Christmas everyone and boy we got some racing to look forward too. It's important to remember that with over three months or so before Cheltenham the trainers, owners, jocks and all us normal folk are looking forward to seeing a magnificient build up and thats why Boxing day at Kempton park is the place to be. On with the card... 12.50 Kempton 2m Hurdle It was nice to tip TETLAMI last time out at Sandown and I certainly wont be deserting this five year old just yet. Looked a picture in the paddock at Sandown, ran on strongly in the finish and will love softer ground than some of these if indeed it is on the softer side. Nicky Henderson showed his class in training this one to victory after a long lay off. I believe another win is possible and with Barry Geraghty on board I'm full of optimism. 1.2...

Royal Ascot Preview 2013

The centrepiece of our flat season is almost upon us, this time of year when our thoroughbreds have illustrated enough talent on the racecourse they now gain a chance at landing a big prize at Her Majesty's Royal Ascot. My first preview blog of the meeting quite logical focuses on the first day and it's my pleasure to outline my thoughts on the week ahead starting tonight. The main news this week regarding Henry Cecil is extremely sad, as many have mentioned with wonderful prose regarding the publics favourite, a horse handler who cared for his animals with the midas touch and a trainer who had the ambition and determination to never say 'enoughs enough' even when he was down to around 40 horses in the early 2000's or the pressure and stress in his private life. He is and will always be remembered as a true gentleman and a phenomenal trainer. It's also worth noting that he had an absolute terryifyingly good record at Royal Ascot and it just wont be the same w...
