Newbury, Newmarket and Ripon Saturday 16th July

Another cracking weekend of racing to get our teeth into and what a few months ahead we have in the Flat racing calendar. Very excited about the Canford v Frankel scenario. Or could we be forgetting Zoffany at our peril? All this to come, so on with Saturdays card.

Newbury 2.20 6F

A nice little race this, some with Royal Ascot form and some who have shaped well in recent races and could be on the upgrade. I'm looking for a more progressive type here and a horse that undoubtedly should step up to this grade and that DEACON BLUES. This horse ran a blinder in the Wokingham stayed on strong in the finish and looks the horse to be on, I will be looking for at least 3/1 in order to play this horse though so check the betting beforehand any shorter and I'll be steering this one.

Newmarket 2.35 1m 4f

A nice looking fillies race,  the filly I'm looking at ran a blinder behind Timepeice a Henry Cecil trained filly (who he has always ranked highly) gives the horse a cracking chance in this competitive heat. I feel this trip will suit the horse down to the ground and any juice in the ground will only improve this horses chances. I say snap up the 8/1 each way and look forward to spending your winnings! SEA OF HEARTBREAK.

Ripon 3.25 1m 4f

Now this is a nice handicap with a nice pot of prize money. If I owned a good solid performing horse who can run betweeen 1 2f and 1m 4f I'd be aiming for Ripon today. The field are a mixed bunch some on the upgrade others coming down the handicap. Some form at Ripon which I believe is always a bonus and with this in mind I'm going for MOTIVADO. Sir Mark Prescott trained will have this horse ready, this motivator colt couldnt quite finish with enough gusto to finish the race last time out but I see a progressive three year old who will like the course and ground. Has every chance the jockey Stevey Donohue in my opinion is one of the most underrated jocks out there, come on Stevey!!!

Newbury 3.30 5f sprint

Now it looks like I'm a stickler for sprints here and in recent months it seems to have paid off. We all know the draw and break at the start is absolute crucial for a horse to run a true race but this is VALUE!!. I really think the track and ground will play into the strengths of a complete outsider here but am a little bemused by the price, if PYMANS THEORY goes off at near 20/1, 25/1 I believe that is daylight robbery. This horse except for his last run at Ascot on soft ground has been a consistent and progressive animal. Its third in Chantilly in France was also good if it werent for the ground I believe it may of got a little closer. Dascombes horses have begun to get into a rhythmn of late and I believe this has an outstanding chance!

Newbury 4.05 1m 2f

Sir Michael Stoute has had a bit of a quiet season to date but the first week of July has a seen a bit of a resurgence and I think the form is shifting towards what we all have been accustomed too in recent seasons and that's his ability to win at the highest level. Ryan Moore on board this horse and the fact that the horse looks to be progressing in the right direction, will get the trip and after its last run in June when it lost in a tight  finish makes me believe its time for a win. DUX SCHOLAR has every chance here. I'm just hoping that the rain doesnt effect conditions too much.

And thats it folks, live the dream! Good Luck if you play any of these today.

Grand National Selections.

How I'm feeling about the upcoming Grand National Neptune Collognes - 2012 Grand National hero This time of year never fails to stir the soul both tangibly and metaphorically. After the sun peeps it's head out from amongst the clouds, after the temperature rises, after the first buds are seen on the trees, after the restoration of vitamin d in our blood, after the taste of a crisp cider on a warm day hits the tongue, after many months of wearing trousers I can finally air the paler than white limbs of mine, after...after...after all that April is the month when a new grand national winner is crowned king of the toughest steeplechase in the world. I can safely say without hesitation that this years national is probably the most competitive yet, the handicapper has given everything a chance this year and I'm happy with the three selections that I'll be following. Grand National Selections: Selection 1: Onenightinvienna  Trained by Philip Hobbs ...

A real Christmas Cracker! Kempton Park Boxing Day.

The festive season has begun for me, sitting down with my Santa hat, a mince pie and a pint of guinness all points to a very content and relaxed feel to this weeks blogg. Merry Christmas everyone and boy we got some racing to look forward too. It's important to remember that with over three months or so before Cheltenham the trainers, owners, jocks and all us normal folk are looking forward to seeing a magnificient build up and thats why Boxing day at Kempton park is the place to be. On with the card... 12.50 Kempton 2m Hurdle It was nice to tip TETLAMI last time out at Sandown and I certainly wont be deserting this five year old just yet. Looked a picture in the paddock at Sandown, ran on strongly in the finish and will love softer ground than some of these if indeed it is on the softer side. Nicky Henderson showed his class in training this one to victory after a long lay off. I believe another win is possible and with Barry Geraghty on board I'm full of optimism. 1.2...

Royal Ascot Preview 2013

The centrepiece of our flat season is almost upon us, this time of year when our thoroughbreds have illustrated enough talent on the racecourse they now gain a chance at landing a big prize at Her Majesty's Royal Ascot. My first preview blog of the meeting quite logical focuses on the first day and it's my pleasure to outline my thoughts on the week ahead starting tonight. The main news this week regarding Henry Cecil is extremely sad, as many have mentioned with wonderful prose regarding the publics favourite, a horse handler who cared for his animals with the midas touch and a trainer who had the ambition and determination to never say 'enoughs enough' even when he was down to around 40 horses in the early 2000's or the pressure and stress in his private life. He is and will always be remembered as a true gentleman and a phenomenal trainer. It's also worth noting that he had an absolute terryifyingly good record at Royal Ascot and it just wont be the same w...
