Galway Festival Week. Day 1!

Well after tipping a couple of winners at the weekend, very pleased wih my Pisco Sour tip at 8/1 its time to look forward to a cracking weeks racing in Ireland at the Galway festival. We also have the delightful Glorious Goodwood to look forward to and I am more than excited! Come On!

Galway 5.05 2m Novice Hurdle

I have a nice each way horse to start proceedings off here and ANYAN TREE the british raider at 10/1 is a very attactive price. Will love the ground and will get the trip fine. Rebecca Curtis has been an upcoming trainer in the last couple of years and I have no problem in backing her to take this race. With Davey Russell on board an experienced jockey who will oblige with a great show here. When you look at how well it stayed on in the finish last time out at Worcester winning by 5 lengths, this horse undoubtedly has more to give and is overpriced. Get off to a good start and back this 4 year old Danehill Dancer colt!.

5.35 2m Handicap Hurdle.

Yet again we find an overpriced individual here in the shape of SIXTEEN FORTY TWO. Two things which most people will look at here is the trainer and jockey who arent well known individuals but if you look at this horses chances from the form, distance and ground I have little concern that this horse will indeed has strong win claims. The betting in this race suggests a level of biast towards certain trainers and yes records are important but in the cold light of day its form that counts and this one has it in is favour an each way put at 16/1 you cant go wrong.

6.10 7f Maiden

Difficult, trappy and many unknown quantities here. But again the ones with an element of form will obviously have learned something from their previous race. With this common sense approach I'm going with LEARN the Aiden O Brien nicely bred Galileo colt. My own thinkig is that the 7f trip will suit and progress would of been made in its last run. A tricky contest but LEARN will learn how t win tonight!

6.45 2m Handicap

The master at Galway is undoubtedly Dermot Weld a magnificient dual trainer and a trainer who has an unparalled dominance at the Galway Festival. NATURAL HIGH has course and distance form at Galway. The horses current mark is a fair one and I believe is still in front of the handicapper. This horse is a cut above this lot, as long as it jumps cleanly and has enough left in the tank due to the firm ground I can see this horse winning and winning well!

7.15 7f Handicap

I'm looking at the only horse with a 7 furlong race under his belt and a clear progressive type who has been raised significantly by the handicapper but at 7/1 is a great each way bet. LAKE GEORGE has shown some recent consistent form and is clearly an improving three year old. I like the way it kept on in the finish to win its last race and winning over seven certainly ticks a massive box for this horse to win. Has every chance!

7.45 1m 4f Handicap

NANTUCKET LADY. Will enjoy it here, if not a little high in the weights but this Giant Causeway colt is a progressive type and will enjoy this trip and ground. If Joseph O Brien can dictate from the front I'm sure this horse wont be passed.

And those are my picks for this evenings racing, good luck if your having a bet!

Grand National Selections.

How I'm feeling about the upcoming Grand National Neptune Collognes - 2012 Grand National hero This time of year never fails to stir the soul both tangibly and metaphorically. After the sun peeps it's head out from amongst the clouds, after the temperature rises, after the first buds are seen on the trees, after the restoration of vitamin d in our blood, after the taste of a crisp cider on a warm day hits the tongue, after many months of wearing trousers I can finally air the paler than white limbs of mine, after...after...after all that April is the month when a new grand national winner is crowned king of the toughest steeplechase in the world. I can safely say without hesitation that this years national is probably the most competitive yet, the handicapper has given everything a chance this year and I'm happy with the three selections that I'll be following. A real Christmas Cracker! Kempton Park Boxing Day.

The festive season has begun for me, sitting down with my Santa hat, a mince pie and a pint of guinness all points to a very content and relaxed feel to this weeks blogg. Merry Christmas everyone and boy we got some racing to look forward too. It's important to remember that with over three months or so before Cheltenham the trainers, owners, jocks and all us normal folk are looking forward to seeing a magnificient build up and thats why Boxing day at Kempton park is the place to be. On with the card... 12.50 Kempton 2m Hurdle It was nice to tip TETLAMI last time out at Sandown and I certainly wont be deserting this five year old just yet. Looked a picture in the paddock at Sandown, ran on strongly in the finish and will love softer ground than some of these if indeed it is on the softer side. Nicky Henderson showed his class in training this one to victory after a long lay off. I believe another win is possible and with Barry Geraghty on board I'm full of optimism. 1.2...

Royal Ascot Preview 2013

The centrepiece of our flat season is almost upon us, this time of year when our thoroughbreds have illustrated enough talent on the racecourse they now gain a chance at landing a big prize at Her Majesty's Royal Ascot. My first preview blog of the meeting quite logical focuses on the first day and it's my pleasure to outline my thoughts on the week ahead starting tonight. The main news this week regarding Henry Cecil is extremely sad, as many have mentioned with wonderful prose regarding the publics favourite, a horse handler who cared for his animals with the midas touch and a trainer who had the ambition and determination to never say 'enoughs enough' even when he was down to around 40 horses in the early 2000's or the pressure and stress in his private life. He is and will always be remembered as a true gentleman and a phenomenal trainer. It's also worth noting that he had an absolute terryifyingly good record at Royal Ascot and it just wont be the same w...
