Galway Festival Day 2!

Tipping two winners today is always nice particularly when you have an each way 8/1 shot coming in second in the same race. Those adviced were Strong Suit at 5/2, Requinto 6/1 and Red Jazz each way 8/1 finished second.

So as I've hit a purple patch here are my selections for tonights racing at Galway.

5.05 2m Novice Hurdle

Small field but a good solid bunch go to post here. Before looking at the form an element of biast comes into play due to the Dermot Weld horse owned by Dr Lambe, who has plenty with Dermot. However form is always the name of the game and if any horse is going to win this I'm going fro the Noel Meade horse LONDON BRIDGE and I do really fancy this one as well. Looks very progressive and won by 12 lengths in its last run at Downpatrick that victory was over 2 furlongs further but that doesnt put me off or the weight its carrying as it managed it in its last race. This horse will love the ground but a strong gallop is key to this horse coming out on top.

5.35 2m 6f Chase

A nice each way horse has been found here lost by two lengths to the last derby in its last run and goes against that horse again but the Dessie Hughes trained horse SARTEANO looks the one to be on at around 7/1. This horse is a consistent sort who has done well in its last two starts, this lesser trip may also play into his hands, will enjoy this ground and seems to be enjoying things of a late. A small each way chance.

6.10 2m Handicap (Flat)

Big field goes to post here hard to way quite a few of these up. But the one that sticks out and will be favourite is the Willie Mullins trained  DORSET SQUARE. This horss is in the form of his life and I'm not sure anything wll get close to this one. Many have showed some form, many may indeed have potential but many are yet to show any kind of form. Races like thisre always a minefield when you have to rate the horses both over obstacles and on the flat but I'm sure DORSET SQUARE will be ready to prove just how good this bay gelding is.

6.45 1m Handicap (Flat)

Now three year olds in the last few years havent done great in this race but I'm looking at two horses who are looking very progressive, I must also add that one of these is a filly who gets the allowance and trained by Jessica Harrington who I believe is one of the best dual trainers out there and a trainer I would be more than happy to train my horse if indeed I had one. ROYAL BLUE STAR a name I like but more importantly her form. Bar her last run the form is very very strong, winning at Listowel in her penultimate start over a mile that win was a very good victory. ROYAL BLUE STAR didnt disgrace herself in a listed contest either last time out and at 10/1 think thats a great price. My second selection again at an each way price is for the other 3 year old DEFINING YEAR this horse ran in a 9 furlong race last time out and that was probably testing its stamina a little too much, over a mile this Mick Halfords trained colt out of Hawk wing looks a very strong candidate to take this. I cant split these two.

Sticking to those races only tonight, Good Luck and well done if you got on my winners today!

Grand National Selections.

How I'm feeling about the upcoming Grand National Neptune Collognes - 2012 Grand National hero This time of year never fails to stir the soul both tangibly and metaphorically. After the sun peeps it's head out from amongst the clouds, after the temperature rises, after the first buds are seen on the trees, after the restoration of vitamin d in our blood, after the taste of a crisp cider on a warm day hits the tongue, after many months of wearing trousers I can finally air the paler than white limbs of mine, after...after...after all that April is the month when a new grand national winner is crowned king of the toughest steeplechase in the world. I can safely say without hesitation that this years national is probably the most competitive yet, the handicapper has given everything a chance this year and I'm happy with the three selections that I'll be following. A real Christmas Cracker! Kempton Park Boxing Day.

The festive season has begun for me, sitting down with my Santa hat, a mince pie and a pint of guinness all points to a very content and relaxed feel to this weeks blogg. Merry Christmas everyone and boy we got some racing to look forward too. It's important to remember that with over three months or so before Cheltenham the trainers, owners, jocks and all us normal folk are looking forward to seeing a magnificient build up and thats why Boxing day at Kempton park is the place to be. On with the card... 12.50 Kempton 2m Hurdle It was nice to tip TETLAMI last time out at Sandown and I certainly wont be deserting this five year old just yet. Looked a picture in the paddock at Sandown, ran on strongly in the finish and will love softer ground than some of these if indeed it is on the softer side. Nicky Henderson showed his class in training this one to victory after a long lay off. I believe another win is possible and with Barry Geraghty on board I'm full of optimism. 1.2...

Royal Ascot Preview 2013

The centrepiece of our flat season is almost upon us, this time of year when our thoroughbreds have illustrated enough talent on the racecourse they now gain a chance at landing a big prize at Her Majesty's Royal Ascot. My first preview blog of the meeting quite logical focuses on the first day and it's my pleasure to outline my thoughts on the week ahead starting tonight. The main news this week regarding Henry Cecil is extremely sad, as many have mentioned with wonderful prose regarding the publics favourite, a horse handler who cared for his animals with the midas touch and a trainer who had the ambition and determination to never say 'enoughs enough' even when he was down to around 40 horses in the early 2000's or the pressure and stress in his private life. He is and will always be remembered as a true gentleman and a phenomenal trainer. It's also worth noting that he had an absolute terryifyingly good record at Royal Ascot and it just wont be the same w...
