Royal Ascot Week 2011 Day 2

After a scintillating day 1,  what does day two bring?
I'm pleased with my start to the week so hopefully its going to continuing in an upward motion!

Race 1 Jersey Stakes 7f

Now heres a very interesting start to proceedings I've picked a horse with bags of potential (or so it seemed earlier this season), if you use todays form from Ascot an interesting point can be made about my each way steal here STRONG SUIT. Lets forget about its recent form as it hasnt been great but when you look at its form and realise that it was only half a length down on Zoffany in August of last year then we know this horse has undoubtedly class. Zoffany was a closing second on Frankel today, this horse has winning form at Ascot so the course will suit. My only concern is that 7 furlongs may not be its ideal trip but if there's stll a bit of juice in the ground this horse will love that. At around 12/1 thats a nice each way bet. I'm forgetting the jockey though not a big fan of hughes.

Race 2 Windsor Forest Stakes 1m

Tricky, quite a few progressive types here and I'm sticking with SETA, this filly could be the real deal. Luca Cumani the trainer thinks alot about this filly and its easy to see why.I'm having SETA to win, looked impressive at Goodwood over mile in April, Kieran Fallon on board a quality filly we all know how good Fallon can be at his best. My other each way selection which I think has every chance to win is LOLLY FOR DOLLY at around 11/1. This filly tries so hard in all here races and will never give up, has good solid statistics the mile trip, a real trier and one to be on the right side of.

Race 3 3.45 Prince of Wales Stakes 1m 2f

If there was more juice in the ground I'd be all over Planteur like a rash but unless it rains from now until this race I'll be looking elsewhere. Much like Frankel this is so very unoriginal but I cannot for the life of me see any chink in SO YOU THINK'S armoury. This is the horse to beat an absolute revelation in Australia and will be now in the northern hemisphere tomorrow. The consistency, the tenacity, the speed and turn of foot this horse possesses is almost the best I've ever seen (that was Sea the Stars winning the arc in 2009 by the way, closely followed by Zarkava in 2008). This horse wont be off the bridle or if he is its because the jockey wants to win by 10 lengths. I dont think I know this will win!. Ryan Moore on board what MOORE do you want.

Race 4 Royal Hunt Cup 1m straight

I've always wondered what its like to run a mile in a straight line as fast as you can from start to finish because that is just what this race is all about. Consequently this is going to be a mad gallop, lots with chances but only a few with doors to go through. With that in mind I'm going to forget about the draw and pick two horses here with every chance judged on form and form alone. START RIGHT yet again the Cumani and Fallon combo. This horse was so unlucky at Epsom, had to go the long way round and was certainly eating up the ground towards the finish line. If this horse stays out of trouble it will take all the beating, has the classiness to be a step ahead a step right to land this prize. Secondly PROPONENT, I was at Newmarket and had a cheeky each way on this one last time, a horse that will undoubtedly progress for that run, it is safe to say that the stable arent in great form but I'm sure Roger Charlton will have this horse fit and ready, 20/1 at present.

* Please note if Green Destiny runs tomorrow I'll will be backing that horse to win in this race.

And thats all folks, good luck if your going (Thats you Bonesy!)

Grand National Selections.

How I'm feeling about the upcoming Grand National Neptune Collognes - 2012 Grand National hero This time of year never fails to stir the soul both tangibly and metaphorically. After the sun peeps it's head out from amongst the clouds, after the temperature rises, after the first buds are seen on the trees, after the restoration of vitamin d in our blood, after the taste of a crisp cider on a warm day hits the tongue, after many months of wearing trousers I can finally air the paler than white limbs of mine, after...after...after all that April is the month when a new grand national winner is crowned king of the toughest steeplechase in the world. I can safely say without hesitation that this years national is probably the most competitive yet, the handicapper has given everything a chance this year and I'm happy with the three selections that I'll be following. A real Christmas Cracker! Kempton Park Boxing Day.

The festive season has begun for me, sitting down with my Santa hat, a mince pie and a pint of guinness all points to a very content and relaxed feel to this weeks blogg. Merry Christmas everyone and boy we got some racing to look forward too. It's important to remember that with over three months or so before Cheltenham the trainers, owners, jocks and all us normal folk are looking forward to seeing a magnificient build up and thats why Boxing day at Kempton park is the place to be. On with the card... 12.50 Kempton 2m Hurdle It was nice to tip TETLAMI last time out at Sandown and I certainly wont be deserting this five year old just yet. Looked a picture in the paddock at Sandown, ran on strongly in the finish and will love softer ground than some of these if indeed it is on the softer side. Nicky Henderson showed his class in training this one to victory after a long lay off. I believe another win is possible and with Barry Geraghty on board I'm full of optimism. 1.2...

Royal Ascot Preview 2013

The centrepiece of our flat season is almost upon us, this time of year when our thoroughbreds have illustrated enough talent on the racecourse they now gain a chance at landing a big prize at Her Majesty's Royal Ascot. My first preview blog of the meeting quite logical focuses on the first day and it's my pleasure to outline my thoughts on the week ahead starting tonight. The main news this week regarding Henry Cecil is extremely sad, as many have mentioned with wonderful prose regarding the publics favourite, a horse handler who cared for his animals with the midas touch and a trainer who had the ambition and determination to never say 'enoughs enough' even when he was down to around 40 horses in the early 2000's or the pressure and stress in his private life. He is and will always be remembered as a true gentleman and a phenomenal trainer. It's also worth noting that he had an absolute terryifyingly good record at Royal Ascot and it just wont be the same w...
