Epsom Oaks Days (Ladies Day!)

Ok so today is a day full of phenomenal racing from Epsom a truly awesome racecourse. If your going what a day in store!.

The going at Epsom today is Good and not Good to Firm which in a way is a little strange/curious as we've had no rain in these parts for weeks. Anyway here are my selections for today and if you fancy a flutter good luck.

1.40 Princess Elizabeth Stakes 1m

Without trying to use the same adjective here I'm going to go with the word perplexing opener to start this exciting day. Firstly because three year olds have a poor record in this race so I'm discounting Clinical and Nabah not sure they are up to this class anyway. I'm also not convinced by the favourite Antara who is coming back from a break, I certainly think we have seen the best from this horse so with those points in mind for me it centres around the filly from Henry Cecils yard, TIMEPEICE ran very well behing Midday last time out, has shown progression this year so far and will progress again. TIMEPEICE to make a winning start for the legend trainer Henry Cecil. However this is a tricky race to call.

2.10 Investec Mile Handicap 1m
Now this is tricky!. I do like these big handicap fields when a nice e/w big price outsider gets there neck in front. So what to make of it? Well the draw can play a part here and you usually have an advantage with high numbers in a big field like this, in essence you dont want your selection to be lost this will depend alot on what the jockeys feel is the better ground. In this race you have some trainers that have done well and Mark Johnston springs to mind staright away but Hacienda and Tartan Gigha have been in no kind of form really so I fancy an old timer a horse that has been around the block a few times and is currently in fine fettle and thats BENANDONNER E/W at an each way price could be a great steal, this horse has been in great form of late and is still at a reasonable mark to have a play in the finish.

2.45 Coronation Cup 1m 4f
Disappointing we dont have a few more going to post but still the top three in the betting will make this a very interesting and enjoyable race to watch. I have a real soft spot for Dandino, this Dansili colt is a class animal and an owners dream. However not sure it will be up to the quality of MIDDAY, I believe this mare will win and win with some in hand, this horse has been a globetrotting superstar and has shown what a classy animal she is. The main danger could be that of St Nicholas Abbey who has promised alot but only shown its class at Chester last time out, other than that that win no other form stands up, the racing post trophy win is flawed because none of the other horses went on to greater things and nothing has really franked the form. Henry Cecil again MIDDAY!.

3.25 Investment Stakes 1m 2f

With quite a few in with a chance here and with at least three you'd be struggling to get the proverbial cigerette paper between them. So I'm going for jockey over form to a degree and believe that RIGHT STEP is a step in the right direction. This horse will get the trip, love the ground and has the best pilot in the game on board. RIGHT STEP at an each way price could be the winner.

4.05 THE OAKS
If you've been readin my blogg this week you'll already know that I've tipped Wonder of Wonders to run a big race so I wont bore you with that just look at my comments below. So I'm going to pick an outsider who will get the trip, ran very well to win a trial before this race at Lingfield, is trained by a very astute trainer and has given the ride to Sam Hitchcot who rode a beauty in the derby trial at Lingfield last month.ZAIN AL BOLDAN. I like this horse at a nice 10/1 e/w bet. Good Luck all! with Wonder of Wonders to win.

What a day!
Live the Dream and Good Luck to you Bones!

Grand National Selections.

How I'm feeling about the upcoming Grand National Neptune Collognes - 2012 Grand National hero This time of year never fails to stir the soul both tangibly and metaphorically. After the sun peeps it's head out from amongst the clouds, after the temperature rises, after the first buds are seen on the trees, after the restoration of vitamin d in our blood, after the taste of a crisp cider on a warm day hits the tongue, after many months of wearing trousers I can finally air the paler than white limbs of mine, after...after...after all that April is the month when a new grand national winner is crowned king of the toughest steeplechase in the world. I can safely say without hesitation that this years national is probably the most competitive yet, the handicapper has given everything a chance this year and I'm happy with the three selections that I'll be following. Grand National Selections: Selection 1: Onenightinvienna  Trained by Philip Hobbs ...

A real Christmas Cracker! Kempton Park Boxing Day.

The festive season has begun for me, sitting down with my Santa hat, a mince pie and a pint of guinness all points to a very content and relaxed feel to this weeks blogg. Merry Christmas everyone and boy we got some racing to look forward too. It's important to remember that with over three months or so before Cheltenham the trainers, owners, jocks and all us normal folk are looking forward to seeing a magnificient build up and thats why Boxing day at Kempton park is the place to be. On with the card... 12.50 Kempton 2m Hurdle It was nice to tip TETLAMI last time out at Sandown and I certainly wont be deserting this five year old just yet. Looked a picture in the paddock at Sandown, ran on strongly in the finish and will love softer ground than some of these if indeed it is on the softer side. Nicky Henderson showed his class in training this one to victory after a long lay off. I believe another win is possible and with Barry Geraghty on board I'm full of optimism. 1.2...

Royal Ascot Preview 2013

The centrepiece of our flat season is almost upon us, this time of year when our thoroughbreds have illustrated enough talent on the racecourse they now gain a chance at landing a big prize at Her Majesty's Royal Ascot. My first preview blog of the meeting quite logical focuses on the first day and it's my pleasure to outline my thoughts on the week ahead starting tonight. The main news this week regarding Henry Cecil is extremely sad, as many have mentioned with wonderful prose regarding the publics favourite, a horse handler who cared for his animals with the midas touch and a trainer who had the ambition and determination to never say 'enoughs enough' even when he was down to around 40 horses in the early 2000's or the pressure and stress in his private life. He is and will always be remembered as a true gentleman and a phenomenal trainer. It's also worth noting that he had an absolute terryifyingly good record at Royal Ascot and it just wont be the same w...
