Newbury Saturday 14th May

My weekly Saturday racing tips are up for everyone yet again, here I give my selections on the races I'll be having a flutter on. Feel free to read and I may persuade you enough to have little wager on a few.  Yeeeeehhaaaa!!

Newbury 1.25 1m 2 Class 4

A very tricky maiden but lets be honest maidens are a puzzle and this tricky contest is no different. So where is the value? Well look no further than INCITEMENT owned by the Highclere partnership this Motivator colt looks certain to stake a claim on his first appearance this year and be one to follow this season. With the added bonus of Fallon on board this hopefully will be a great each way price. Lets hope thats a good start to proceedings.

2.00 Aston Park Stakes 1m 5f

Seven go to post here in a very competitive heat. Drunken Sailor is the highest rated but again I like to look for a bit more value however this can be very hard to find when e/w is 1, 2 only so I fancy AKMAAL Richard Hills gets on with this animal very well, he'll easily get the trip, likes the firm ground and ran a very admirable race in second last time out at Ascot. If Hill's shows a master class from the front here I can see him having a few off the bridle with half a mile still left to run.

2.35 6f Handicap

Trappy handicaps dont come more uncertain than this therefore I'll be having two e/w punts in this race as I feel there is some real value to be had. Firstly JUDD STREET at around 25/1 is a standout bet, if this horse can recapture the form that saw it win in Dubai at Meydan then I really believe that this is a massive price. Has an ok draw and I'm sure will be prominent throughout and with Cath Gannon on board with the way she's riding already this season, a great e/w. Next I'll be tipping MAX POWER not such a big price but around 6/1 is still good value, dropped back it this trip last season, hosed up and could do so again, this horse is the highest rated and on paper should be the best in the race but carrying top weight would be my only concern.

3.10 1m 2f Handicap (MY NAP!!)

DOMINANT, I was at Sandown when the horse didnt get a clear run and ran on into second. I've had it in the notebook since then and would recommend this horse will run a true race this time. Furthermore the stable is in very good form. My nap for Saturday! Come on YEEEHHHAAA!

3.45 The Big Won!! LOCKINGE STAKES

Quite clearly a class race, with class horses, class jockeys and I'm getting very excited. I'm not going to sway from my opinion which was made at Sandown last month after seeing the awesome DICK TURPIN run an absolute blinder on its reappearance, some might say the second string in Hannons yard but I think you have to look at this horses form last year and realise that this horse has a lot more class thats its been credited with. The reason, Canford Cliffs now his stable mate is also a class act but I'm an advocate for getting that first run into a horse and I think Canford Cliffs may need it. Other chances in this race fall to Twice Over who I love but has been on the go through the winter in America and I'm not sure that a more young progressive type may have the better of this horse this season. However I do love Twice Over so I'll be having a small e/w just out of love!

Grand National Selections.

How I'm feeling about the upcoming Grand National Neptune Collognes - 2012 Grand National hero This time of year never fails to stir the soul both tangibly and metaphorically. After the sun peeps it's head out from amongst the clouds, after the temperature rises, after the first buds are seen on the trees, after the restoration of vitamin d in our blood, after the taste of a crisp cider on a warm day hits the tongue, after many months of wearing trousers I can finally air the paler than white limbs of mine, after...after...after all that April is the month when a new grand national winner is crowned king of the toughest steeplechase in the world. I can safely say without hesitation that this years national is probably the most competitive yet, the handicapper has given everything a chance this year and I'm happy with the three selections that I'll be following. A real Christmas Cracker! Kempton Park Boxing Day.

The festive season has begun for me, sitting down with my Santa hat, a mince pie and a pint of guinness all points to a very content and relaxed feel to this weeks blogg. Merry Christmas everyone and boy we got some racing to look forward too. It's important to remember that with over three months or so before Cheltenham the trainers, owners, jocks and all us normal folk are looking forward to seeing a magnificient build up and thats why Boxing day at Kempton park is the place to be. On with the card... 12.50 Kempton 2m Hurdle It was nice to tip TETLAMI last time out at Sandown and I certainly wont be deserting this five year old just yet. Looked a picture in the paddock at Sandown, ran on strongly in the finish and will love softer ground than some of these if indeed it is on the softer side. Nicky Henderson showed his class in training this one to victory after a long lay off. I believe another win is possible and with Barry Geraghty on board I'm full of optimism. 1.2...

Royal Ascot Preview 2013

The centrepiece of our flat season is almost upon us, this time of year when our thoroughbreds have illustrated enough talent on the racecourse they now gain a chance at landing a big prize at Her Majesty's Royal Ascot. My first preview blog of the meeting quite logical focuses on the first day and it's my pleasure to outline my thoughts on the week ahead starting tonight. The main news this week regarding Henry Cecil is extremely sad, as many have mentioned with wonderful prose regarding the publics favourite, a horse handler who cared for his animals with the midas touch and a trainer who had the ambition and determination to never say 'enoughs enough' even when he was down to around 40 horses in the early 2000's or the pressure and stress in his private life. He is and will always be remembered as a true gentleman and a phenomenal trainer. It's also worth noting that he had an absolute terryifyingly good record at Royal Ascot and it just wont be the same w...
